The CA-954 Air Force Jr. ROTC Unit had an outstanding 2011-12 year and has accomplished more great things in 2012-2013.
The Distinguished Unit Award for the 9th consecutive year. This allows the unit to nominate cadets to Service Academies, five each to the USAF Academy and the US Army Academy at West Point and three to the US Naval Academy at Annapolis.
We currently have over 1500 hours of Community Service throughout the Rocklin and Lincoln communities. That is over 100 more hours than last year with over three months of school remaining. In April 2012, CA-954 was recognized by the City of Rocklin and Rocklin Chamber of Commerce with the Roy and Peggy Ruhkala Group Community Service Award for 2012. JROTC was the only high school organization in the last fifteen years to receive the award.
Six of our current seniors have been rewarded with various nominations to the Service Academies: Four Congressional Nominations including the Military Academy at West Point, the Air Force Academy, the Naval Academy and the Merchant Marine Academy. The unit also received three JROTC nominations to the Naval Academy and a Presidential Nomination to the Naval Academy.
One cadet received a US Navy $180,000 Navy ROTC Scholarship
One cadet was select to attend the US Naval Academy Prep School.
Additionally, in NORCAL competitions with other JROTC Units, our cadets participated in NORCAL Volleyball, Basketball (2nd Place), and Fun Olympics with other Jr. ROTC Units.
The Unit also hosted a Leadership Day at Whitney for 7 other AFJROTC Units and plans on doing so again this May.
Last year, the CA-954th Drill Team took Sweepstakes in both the Titan Drill Meet and the NORCAL Drill Meet; a first for CA-954. The team hopes to repeat sweeping both competitions this year and are already off to a great start as the captured Sweepstakes at the Titan Drill Meet in Nov 2012 and have their sights set on NORCAL in April.
